Someone is Following in Your Footsteps

I have two small bulletin boards that hang above my sink. While I'm washing dishes or cleaning fruits and vegetables, I'm contemplating on whatever are currently on my boards. I have excerpts from books, favorite quotes, Bible passages I'm memorizing, and other verses that I want to remind me of something. One of the little quotes I have is "Someone is following in your footsteps." I have NO CLUE where I heard or read this, but it stuck with me as something I need to remember.

I don't usually blog on Sundays but I wanted to share this while it was still impacting my heart. I woke up from a nap that my dear husband allowed me to have while he watched the kids and there were my children wearing my shoes. Both of them! So sweet right? That's what I thought too and was ready to leave it at that.

Suddenly I hear Aimee saying "Mom I'm like you!" My heart skipped a beat. God used that moment to teach me something or remind me of something I knew, but needed to really GET again. Someone is following in your footsteps. As a mom, it's easy for me to see that my kids are following in my footsteps and imitating me. They have a long way to go to be able to fold laundry like Mom or wash the dishes like Mom. But in other ways, they have it just right.

One night Sam and I were each laying in Aimee and Cody's new "big kid beds" in their room. Aimee turned off the light and shut the door on us. After a few seconds Aimee opened the door and yelled "GET BACK IN BED!" with all of the breath in her lungs. She shut the door again. A few seconds later she did the same thing over and over commanding us to get in our beds and "GO TO SLEEP!" One time she even gave my hubbie a spanking for not being asleep. We laughed and thought it was funny especially since we never moved out of their beds and even closed our eyes like obedient children should! Until the spanking and the "child" was provoked greatly!

Very sweet right?

Except she was imitating her mommy perfectly.

Is this really what I want her to imitate? Now it gets real. It's all sweet and cute until I realized that these kids are following everything that they see from me. I am not the person they need to be following but they will. So as their leader and teacher, I need to get my game on and follow the Master Leader, Jesus Christ.

I looked in the NAS Bible and the words "Follow Me" are listed 26 times in the Bible. 19 of them are from Jesus' mouth. He wants us to FOLLOW HIM! Just as my children follow me, I need to be "watching" the Savior and imitating Him. He is perfect and holy and how I want my kids to strive to be. So if they are going to be following me, I need to be following Him.

Someone is following in your footsteps. Who is it? It may be your children, your sibling, your spouse, your Sunday School class, your _________ you fill in the blank, but it may be someone you don't know about. But you are leading someone. Who are you following?

"If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him." John 12:26
