Medicine Bottle Gift for Someone You Love

So this Mother's Day I came up with this idea for a gift for my mom and I love it and my mom loved it so I thought I would share it with you!

I had a large medicine bottle that I pulled all of the stickers off and washed. Then I wrote out special little things that I wanted to say to my mom. Most of them were "Remember when. . ." or "thank you for. . ." Honestly, when it came to doing this for my mom, I was crying my eyes out with all of the memories and thankfulness for my own mom. But anywho. . .

I cut the little things I wrote down into long strips of paper and rolled them up tightly - after I rolled them up, they stayed together surprisingly well!

I used a round sticker that just HAPPENED to fit perfectly on the top and I labeled it "Need a MOMint?" you know, like moment only MOMint? Just in case you didn't catch that one! ha ha

I attached a ribbon with glue dots - love these! If you've never tried them, get them!
Then I added this little sticker with these words:

Directions: Take 1 each time you need a Momint
Ingredients: Results of being a blessed Mother Proverbs 31:28

Ta da! Done! It really was pretty easy!

If you wanted to give this to a friend, boyfriend, spouse it would be very easy to adjust the wording for your special someone! Let me know if you use my idea and how you used it!

10. I love that God saw fit for ME to be entrusted with these beautiful lives to train and shape to become hopefully His children and then closer to the image of Christ. May I NEVER take that for granted!

Naughty Spurts

So I have a question - do your kids go through NAUGHTY Spurts? Mine do. I don't quite get it but then again I do. We'll be doing good and go for awhile without any or few blow-ups, rebellious attitudes, or just straight-up naughtiness. Now don't misunderstand, my kids do not go through this time in between as perfect little angels. They still take the normal guidance and reminders and occasional little "reminders." I'm talking about the BIG issues.

This past weekend was quite FULL of BIG issues. For example on Friday, I woke up to discover my kids had been up for a little while before daddy and I. They had been very busy at sprinkling the living room with Valentine cake sprinkles. EVERYWHERE. They didn't seem to be very penitent so we spent a VERY. LONG. TIME. picking them up ONE. BY. ONE. I don't think they will do that again.

Then on Saturday night my family was watching a movie together and the kids lost interest and went downstairs to the play room. Suddenly my mom intuition kicked in and I said "It's been awhile since I've heard the kids." So we snuck downstairs to see if we could find out what was keeping them so quiet. We were met by this mess.

If you can't tell what this is - these are the pieces of board games and card games and kids games and who-knows-what-all games. The kids experienced a little "reminder" and an early bedtime that night. So while daddy and I sent them upstairs to put on their pajamas, we started cleaning up and then tucked them in. Then I noticed that EVERY. SINGLE. KEY. of our piano had been colored on with a brown marker. This was NOT this way before we started cleaning up the games. Fortunately for my children they were already in bed at this point and my patience would have a chance to re-accumulate for a "discussion" with my children in the morning. So my hubbie and I went back downstairs to clean up the games.

Needless to say my hubbie asked me why in the world I was taking pictures of this catastrophe. I firmly stated that someday my children would call me on the phone and explain to me what their kids have done to them. And I would pull out these pictures and just smile and probably cry because once upon a time, I was in their shoes and would love to go back to when they were little just for a little while.

So while I bemoan the most recent NAUGHTY SPURT, I can't help but remember that someday I will miss these days and having these sorts of "problems." And I can remember to rise up and call my own mommy blessed. I don't want to know everything she had to go through in raising me and my siblings. I'm already getting the gist of it!

"Mission Toy Room" Accomplished!

It's finished! Most of the toys are now down in the basement and no longer in the kids room. The toys are now occupying nice bookshelves in our family room downstairs. My baby monitor is set up so I can keep an ear on them which makes me feel better. I love it and the kids like the space to spread out their toys! And believe me they do it too! Bedtime had become "Let's be quiet as mouses and play with toys instead of sleeping time" and it needed to be stopped! Several people (including my mom and husband) have told me that I should try splitting up my kids into different rooms. I agree wholeheartedly! I just can't do it! My house is set up with the Master and one other bedroom upstairs and two downstairs. I love having a 4 bedroom house! It's awesome! But I can't do it! I have several reasons:

1. If she wakes up and starts to cry, I may not hear her if the monitor gets turned off.
2. My basement is a walk out basement and she could escape and I'd never know it!
3. My basement is a walk-out basement and someone could take her and I'd never know it!
4. My basement is a walk-out basement and is scary even to me at night!
5. Probably the biggest reason - I'm not ready for her to grow up and be that independent!

Needless to say, I'm hoping our house will have 3 bedrooms all on the same floor so I can be close to my kids and not worry about those things anymore. In the meantime, they're not complaining and I'm the one who deals with the bedtime issues anyway so it's all good!

Books Under My Pillow

I love to read! From the time I was a little girl I have loved to read. I have tons of precious books that I have read over and over. I have many favorites! Since becoming a mom and taking on other responsibilities, my reading has included books like "I'll Love You Forever," "The Cat in the Hat," and "The Best Dressed Doll." I'm not complaining, in fact I love sharing my love of reading with my kids! A couple of days ago I sat on my daughter's bed and realized that there was something under her pillow. I lifted it up and lo and behold, there is a STACK of books! I asked Aimee why her books were under her pillow. She replied by saying "So I can read them to go to sleep!" I said "Ok, but why are they under your pillow and not in the book box?" Aimee looks at me like I'm crazy and said "So I don't get out of my bed mom!" I laughed so hard because she was right! If she got out of her bed to get the books she would have disobeyed mom and dad. The girl was simply planning ahead! If my mom is reading this I'm sure she is laughing because of another little girl who used to read books and hide them in unusual places for that perfect opportunity to have a good read! Well mom, it's payback time! But you know what? I don't mind it a bit!

Someone is Following in Your Footsteps

I have two small bulletin boards that hang above my sink. While I'm washing dishes or cleaning fruits and vegetables, I'm contemplating on whatever are currently on my boards. I have excerpts from books, favorite quotes, Bible passages I'm memorizing, and other verses that I want to remind me of something. One of the little quotes I have is "Someone is following in your footsteps." I have NO CLUE where I heard or read this, but it stuck with me as something I need to remember.

I don't usually blog on Sundays but I wanted to share this while it was still impacting my heart. I woke up from a nap that my dear husband allowed me to have while he watched the kids and there were my children wearing my shoes. Both of them! So sweet right? That's what I thought too and was ready to leave it at that.

Suddenly I hear Aimee saying "Mom I'm like you!" My heart skipped a beat. God used that moment to teach me something or remind me of something I knew, but needed to really GET again. Someone is following in your footsteps. As a mom, it's easy for me to see that my kids are following in my footsteps and imitating me. They have a long way to go to be able to fold laundry like Mom or wash the dishes like Mom. But in other ways, they have it just right.

One night Sam and I were each laying in Aimee and Cody's new "big kid beds" in their room. Aimee turned off the light and shut the door on us. After a few seconds Aimee opened the door and yelled "GET BACK IN BED!" with all of the breath in her lungs. She shut the door again. A few seconds later she did the same thing over and over commanding us to get in our beds and "GO TO SLEEP!" One time she even gave my hubbie a spanking for not being asleep. We laughed and thought it was funny especially since we never moved out of their beds and even closed our eyes like obedient children should! Until the spanking and the "child" was provoked greatly!

Very sweet right?

Except she was imitating her mommy perfectly.

Is this really what I want her to imitate? Now it gets real. It's all sweet and cute until I realized that these kids are following everything that they see from me. I am not the person they need to be following but they will. So as their leader and teacher, I need to get my game on and follow the Master Leader, Jesus Christ.

I looked in the NAS Bible and the words "Follow Me" are listed 26 times in the Bible. 19 of them are from Jesus' mouth. He wants us to FOLLOW HIM! Just as my children follow me, I need to be "watching" the Savior and imitating Him. He is perfect and holy and how I want my kids to strive to be. So if they are going to be following me, I need to be following Him.

Someone is following in your footsteps. Who is it? It may be your children, your sibling, your spouse, your Sunday School class, your _________ you fill in the blank, but it may be someone you don't know about. But you are leading someone. Who are you following?

"If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him." John 12:26

The Mom Song!

If you are a mom and have not seen this video, you are missing out on some laughs! I don't use all of the things she says here since my kids are only 3 and 1, BUT I probably will someday in my parenting life. I love it! Happy Friday!

Precious Dandelions

After being stuck inside due to coughs,
sneezes and runny noses we finally broke loose
and enjoyed the wonderful weather outside.
We walked around campus and picked
dandelion after dandelion.
It was a challenge because I never realized there was
an art to be perfected when picking dandelions!
I taught my kids how to pick dandelions by their "handles"
to avoid hurting their yellow "faces."
By the time we walked back home we had left a trail
of dandelions behind us.
But a few lucky ones made it into my very own "Mommy's Dandelion Vase."
I am so very excited because these are
the very first dandelions that my kids
have picked and given to mommy.
And aren't they
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!

So Thankful

I am thankful for so many things:
God, family, friends, children, time, provisions, blessings, love, wisdom, Bible, salvation, books, communication, sleep, food, apartment, parents, the list goes on. Today I am especially thankful for friends.

My best Friend of all is my God and what a Friend He is,
indescribable, holy, perfect - no earthly friends can compare.

My best earthly friend is my husband
The one that I can laugh, cry, play, work, serve and be served.

My friend that I go to when I need wisdom is my mom
I know when I am struggling or lost she is there to help me

I have many friends who are such an encouragement to me and are fun to be around and who I love but today I am mentioning these three friends because they are so very important to me and who I am. I can't imagine my life without these three people and their impact on my life. Thank you my great God
Thank you my wonderful husband
Thank you my sweet mom

No One Tells You

No one tells you about what it takes to be a mom.
No one tells you how difficult pregnancy is. How you can't sleep, eat or control your bodily functions anymore.
No one tells you how that little baby growing inside you will attach itself to your heart and will never release you ever again.
No one tells you that your body takes on a life of it's own and that body that you thought was horrid before is the same body you would kill to have back again.
No one tells you how exhilarating it is to feel that little one's butterfly movements for the first time.
No one tells you how terrible labor is and how you will never, ever, ever, want to do that ever again.
No one tells you how you will hold your sweet little bundle of joy and be the happiest mom on the planet.
No one tells you that nursing is painful and vanquishes your social life.
No one tells you how precious and special nursing your child is.

No one tells you that changing poopy diapers will be that disgusting.
No one tells you that you will suddenly love to dance across the room and wave your hands around like a mad woman only to hear those first tiny giggles.

No one tells you that crawling suddenly equals giving your child the keys to the car and watching the child drive away.
No one tells you that going to a movie with your husband is next to impossible.
No one tells you that your child will only fall asleep in your arms which makes you feel so loved.
No one tells you that date night is a pipe dream because your child will only fall asleep in your arms.
No one tells you that your child will finally sleep through the night.
No one tells you that the next morning you will be scared to death your child died instead of just sleeping through the night.
No one tells you that weaning is a huge blessing and you may be able to have a tiny social life again.
No one tells you that you will miss nursing.

No one tells you that all of the books written about parenting did not include your child.
No one tells you the joy experienced when your child obeys you for the first time and makes the discipline all worth it.
No one tells you that you will get tired of discipling the right way and yell and scream at your child.
No one tells you that you will cry tears of sorrow at your actions and hug your child and your child hugs you back to let you know it's all right, he still loves you.
No one tells you how letting the doctors pinch, prick, or cut open your child will make you want to kill someone for the first time in your life.
No one tells you that if your child gets sick, your non-cuddler child will want to cuddle with the love of their life - you.
No one tells you that if you get sick no one cares.
No one tells you that you will victoriously potty-train your 18 month old in 2 weeks.
No one tells you that potty-training will go out the window the second you move to another location and it will be another year before you want to tackle it again.
No one tells you that potty-training is not that difficult!
No one tells you that poopy-training is another story.
No one tells you that your child will be the most talented child you have ever seen.
No one tells you that those talents will include finger-painting her poopy glory all over the nursery walls, bed, toys . . .
No one tells you that you will love your child so much that all of these bad things last only for a moment and the good things become precious memories that will last a lifetime.

That's why no one tells you.

dedicated to my daughter Aimee who inspired me this morning when I walked into her room and discovered encrusted poop all over the walls, toys, and carpet and as I was cleaning it I was furious that no one tells you about these mom-things that will take over your life.
But yet, I understand why.
